Apache vs Nginx
So far, all my sites are powered by Apache. It's well known for being a RAM hog. As traffic increases, the load on the server become greater.

I have heard good words that Nginx is a far more efficient web server than Apache and uses less memory and it much lighter than Apache.

Here is an example:
A site powered by WordPress + Nginx + Mysql + PHP with only 44MB of Ram? Impossible?
Check it out here:

Meanwhile, I have created a SAN 2.0 VPS with Centos 5.5, PHP 5.3.3, Nginx 0.8.50, MySQL 5.0.91, APC 3.1.3p1, Memcache 2.2.5, WordPress 3.01 installed. With W3 Total Cache, it's reasonably fast but uses at least 200MB.

Using Apache Benchmark,

It can achieves 7428.25 requested per second.

I will create another SAN 2.0 VPS using the lowendscript by lowendbox.com and compare the performance.

Needless to said, my new site is freeonlinegames88.com which will be used to test ArcadeBB V4 Theme and Trade Plugin.

RE: Apache vs Nginx
Different software can give significant difference in mem usage etc, specialy when your site gets bigger and bigger.
But.. Wordpress is a big CPU/MEM user, if you would compare it with a php scripted site i wonder how big that diffenrece is, on my shared hosting i was making the servers flip over with my wordpress site. After the plugins w3 total cache no problems but still WP consumes alot.

RE: Apache vs Nginx
I am convinced that Nginx + PHP-FPM/PHP-CGI will outperform Apache 2 in term speed and memory usage. Now I know why Host like Apache. Tongue

RE: Apache vs Nginx
I'm not spec as admin, but my admins setup Nginx on front-end for static content and Apache on back-end. My WP arcade loading pages very fast on shared host. Also all CJ's running with this method - Nginx for thumbs and Apache on back-end. So, server and scripts (streamrotator + scj) working more productive.
ArcadeBB, do you testing V4 with geo trading? And I want to ask, why W3 Total Cache? Many admins says that Super Cache is more fast

RE: Apache vs Nginx
4ks,

I will be starting on geo trading soon. I didn't really compare W3 Total Cache Vs WP Super Cache but I guess I used W3 Total Cache as it has more features.
