Is Directories A Good Idea?

I submittted to 1,000+ directories and I only got approved at like 80 of them. Do you think I should keep going or its pointless.

Some take times to approve. Some approved already but also pointless.

Submit to Google, Bing and Yahoo and you should get more than 80% of the search.

Spend your time to create more content!

Directories.. to me it feels like startpages (startingpages?) (dutch: http://www.startpagina.nl)

In the old days, they were good, everyone used them.. nowadays.. it's 1 backlink but it has little to no value imo unless it's DMOZ.

I have stopped submitting to directories till they all approve. But thanks for the tips!

I forgot about a sitemap which I just added (i cant believe it took me that long to notice). Also, do you think tag pages are useful.

i would rather go for profile backlinks than directories.

i dont think that directories are good way to promote websites. today seo is focus more on getting links from web 2.0 sites.

Every backlink counts.

The question is all about how long it takes you to get the backlink and how much the backlink is worth.

But every backlink counts.

however every backlink is not equal. With directories about 10% of the thousands out there will give you good juice, the other thousands will give you tiny juice.

The trick is to find the 10% of juicy ones (look at info.vilesilencer.com for a good start)and submit to those manually (or using a formfiller extension for firefox) and then find a way to do the thousands of "just a drop of juice" sites without it taking you any time.

Pointless for me. I've submitted one of my sites to tons of directories but its not performing any better.

Directory Submission takes time to approve some directory approve your site in one day and some take 1-2 months time to approve website.

Its better if you submit your domain name in search engines like google,yahoo and bing
